PhD Position in Aptamer Selection

Job description:

A PhD fellowship is available in the CelCom research group at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. The group conducts research on development of optical nanosensors to perform time-resolved measurements of intracellular concentrations of metabolites in intact cells. The title of the PhD project is: Development of aptamer-based nanosensors for single cell metabolite analysis. The research objective is to develop aptamer-based nanosensors to visualize metabolites dynamically on the single cell level.

The PhD student will be part of an initial training network ISOLATE – Developing single cell techniques for systems biology under the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme. The network has participants from Gothenburg University, Sweden; Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, The Netherlands; ETH Zürich, Switzerland; University of Oxford, United Kingdom and University of Southern Denmark.

We seek a candidate with a Master’s degree and knowledge and experience in nucleotide chemistry, in particular aptamer chemistry and biochemistry, and imaging. Some knowledge of the basics of mass spectrometry and microfluidic devices is also advantageous.

The network primarily recruits researchers from EC Member States and associated countries, but the position is also open to researchers from third countries. Researchers are normally required to move from one country to another when taking up the appointment.
