Ph.D. scholarship in Information and Knowledge Management
Applications are invited for a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship in Information and Knowledge Management at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark in Odense, available from September 1, 2012 or soon thereafter.
The Ph.D. position will be offered in the context of the Patient@home project (www.patientathome.dk). The research will be motivated by clinical problems at the Emergency and Acute Department (EAD) at Odense University Hospital (OUH). The focus of the research will be to develop intelligent information and knowledge management (IKM) tools and techniques to help identify patients at risk and patients in need. Various IKM tasks must be addressed in the project such as data acquisition, information storing, processing, mining, analysis, and visualization, as well as knowledge management aimed at medical decision support. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with a Ph.D. student from EAD, OUH enrolled at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark.
Applicants for the scholarship must have a Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field. Documented software prototyping skills are required. Candidates with prior knowledge of IKM tools and techniques will be preferred.

The fellowships may be sought by students who wish to obtain a PhD degree with a previous Master's degree, in a field relevant to the mentioned PhD-project.
The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD student at the PhD School at the Faculty of Engineering within the Research Training Program of Program of Information and Communication Technologies.
The PhD program at the Faculty of Engineering can be completed as a three-year study with a previous Master’s degree (5+3-program).
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years (5+3 program). Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the Fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Program at the Universities (PhD executive order).
