Post Doc in Political Behaviour and Individual Differences: Personality Traits, Genetic Disposition and Contextual Determinants

Job description:

The Department of Political Science and Public Management in Odense invites applications for a 3-year position as Post Doc in political science within the research area ‘Political Behaviour and Individual Differences’ as of October 1, 2012 or soon thereafter. The Post Doc will be part of the research group ‘Determinants of Political Beliefs and Behaviour Revisited: Heritability, Personality, and Situations’, which is funded by the Velux Foundation and the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences as a strategic research initiative. The main responsibility of the Post Doc will be methodological development in particular in relation to twin studies.

The department is responsible for the BSc, MSc, and PhD in political science and journalism along with part-time MA programmes in public administration and management. The department does research in all subfields of political science, including political sociology, political communication, political behaviour, political theory, public policy, public administration, and international relations.

To qualify for the position, applicants must have finished a PhD (or documentation stating that the dissertation is approved) and demonstrate the capacity to publish in good international academic journals. The perfect candidate engages in research at the intersection of political science and behaviour genetics. A successful candidate must have done research on the importance of individual differences in political behaviour and demonstrate top qualifications in quantitative methods.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the development of the methodological competence of the research groups and to spend half of his or her time on collaborative research projects and teaching/supervising graduate students. The research group, which the Post Doc will be part of, has established a large panel data set on twins and political behaviour as well as representative data on personality traits and political behaviour. The Post Doc will have access to these and other rich data sources on individual differences. Application, salary, etc.:

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The yearly salary is about 61,000 euro gross of taxes, including a 17.1 pension savings scheme. A small personal supplement can be negotiated with the dean. Taxation according to general rules in Denmark.

The application should include (1) a detailed CV, (2) teaching portfolio, (3) publication list indicating which publications are most relevant for the position, (4) the most relevant publications (up to 5), (5) academic diplomas, and (6) a list of all enclosures, (7) if the enclosed publications are co-authored, a co-author declaration must be included (signed by one of the co-authors). All enclosures must be numbered and state the name of the applicant.
