Associate professor in political science and policy analysis
The Unit of Health Promotion Research, Institute of Public Health, Campus Esbjerg, invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor within the area of political science and policy analysis to be filled as soon as possible.
The successful applicant will be expected to conduct and publish internationally competitive research in the fields of political science and health systems.
The research will focus on public health policy analysis. This work will be conducted in an open and inspiring work environment of a group of international researchers coming from different disciplines, such as sociology, political science, psychology, biology, epidemiology and public health.
Current research lines of the Unit for Health Promotion Research are health in all policies, social determinants of health, global health, evidence-informed health promotion and risk analysis. It will be expected that the new associate professor develops her/his research area in collaboration with these research areas.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching at courses and supervision of students within the BSc and MSc programs in public health, such as public administration and policy and policy issues in global health.
In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach within programs on environmental and resource management as well as on sociology and culture at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Southern Denmark. Furthermore, teaching will be expected within a new bachelor program in health promotion and health education. Recently the Unit for Health Promotion started to develop this program at the Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate for the position as associate professor must
• hold a PhD in political science or closely related fields within social science
• have held a position as assistant professor or have equivalent post-doctoral training and experience
• have a good track record of research achievements documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of political science and policy analysis, preferably related to issues of health and social welfare, particularly health in all policies research.
• have a documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills in the respective field at the bachelor and master level.
Further assets will be: experience with funding applications and project coordination, international research collaboration and prior work in cross-cultural contexts.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
If the successful applicant has no documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be engaged on a trial basis for the first 18 months.
