Assistant professor in health anthropology with competences in health promotion

Job description:

The Unit of Health Promotion Research, Institute of Public Health, Campus Esbjerg, invites applications for a position as assistant professor within the area of health anthropology with competences in health promotion to be filled as soon as possible and for a period of 3 years.

The successful applicant will be expected to conduct and publish internationally competitive research in the fields of health anthropology and health promotion.

This work will be conducted in an open and inspiring work environment of a group of international researchers coming from different disciplines, such as sociology, political science, psychology, biology, epidemiology and public health. Current research lines of the Unit for Health Promotion Research are health in all policies, social determinants of health, global health, evidence-informed health promotion and risk analysis. The new assistant professor should develop her/his research area in collaboration with these research areas.

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching at courses and supervision of students within the BSc and MSc programs in public health, such as health promotion in different settings and qualitative research and methods.

Furthermore, some teaching will be expected within a new bachelor program in health promotion and health education. The Unit for Health Promotion Research has recently started to develop this bachelor program at Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The successful candidate for the position as assistant professor will be expected to have
• a PhD degree in Anthropology, Public Health or Social Science
• some post doc experience
• research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of health promotion, health anthropology, and qualitative method
• a documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills in the respective field at bachelor and master level.
Further assets are: knowledge of Middle Eastern cultures, experience with funding applications and project coordination, international research collaboration, and prior work in cross-cultural contexts.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

If the successful applicant has no documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be engaged on a trial basis for the first 18 months.

• up to 5 publications which the candidate considers as most important for the position
