PhD Scholarship in Science Communication
Applications are invited for a three-year PhD scholarship in Science Communication at The Centre for Science and Mathematics Education, University of Southern Denmark in Odense, available from 1 September, 2012 or soon thereafter.
The PhD position will be offered in the context of the project Tourism, Man and Nature project involving University of Southern Denmark, Kiel University, Flensburg University and the science centres Naturama in Svendborg, Fjord & Bælt in Kerteminde, Phänomenta in Flensburg, Multimar-Wattforum in Tönning and Arche Warder in Warder. The project aims at developing a tourism theme across the Danish-German border based on contextualized exhibits which make reference to visitors' relations to the biological and physical surroundings.
The research of the project will focus on what kinds of experiences at science centres enhance visitors’ interest in science and awareness of nature conservation and sustainability. Various tasks must be addressed in the project such as study of exhibitions at science centres and acquisition and analysis of quantitative data that can illuminate visitors’ attitudes towards and benefits from the experiences at the science centres and the significance of the theme Man and Nature for the choice of visiting the centres. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the outreach staff at Naturama.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
