Postdoctoral Positions at Nucleic Acid Center (NAC), University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark

Stillingsbeskrivelse

Two postdoctoral positions within the field of biomolecular nanoscale engineering are available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The positions are for three years (both positions with the possibility of extension by up to two years) and to be filled by 1 September 2012 or soon thereafter. The positions are embedded in the newly established VKR Center for Biomolecular Nanoscale Engineering (BioNEC) funded by the Villum Kann Rasmussen foundation. The positions are allocated at the Nucleic Acid Center, SDU.

One position is available in the group of Professor Jesper Wengel and the research will be focused on design, synthesis and evaluation of short functionalized nucleic acid duplexes for de novo design of biomolecule mimics on a nucleic acid duplex scaffold.

One position is available in the group of Associate Professor Stefan Vogel, and the research will be focused on DNA-programmed and –encoded chemical reactions within liposomes.

Both projects are highly multidisciplinary, involving diverse aspects of chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology.

We are seeking highly motivated and skilled persons to work on biomolecular nanoscale engineering. The successful candidates should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and a substantial experience within research on synthesis of modified oligonucleotides and lipids.

The positions are available to candidates with a PhD degree in organic chemistry or a related discipline. The successful candidates will pursue independent projects and also supervise a small team of younger researchers within the BioNEC center. The candidates should be proficient in English and possess good interpersonal skills.
