Professor in Lipid Biochemistry
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications from outstanding individuals for a position as tenured professor in lipid biochemistry.
Lipid biochemistry is a pivotal part of SDU's efforts to expand and strengthen the research fields of lipid metabolism and lipidomics at the interfaces of natural science and health science.
BMB provides a modern, dynamic and international environment for research and education. The research activities of the 25 group leaders at the department are within biochemistry and bioanalytical sciences (bioimaging, biological mass spectrometry, proteomics and lipidomics), nanobioscience, microbiology and pathogenic bacteria, cellular development and differentiation, genetics and gene regulation. Biomedical research areas include stem cell biology, metabolic regulation and diabetes/obesity, aging and cancer.
Research qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD degree in biochemistry or a related field and have an outstanding research and publication record. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct research in the field of lipid biochemistry and metabolism using relevant eukaryote models and state-of-the-art technologies and methods. Applicants with an interest in lipid-mediated signalling in the context of human diseases are particularly relevant. Proven ability to embark on international research projects, to publish in premier peer-reviewed journals and to attract external research funding is a requirement. Applicants are expected to present an ambitious five-year research programme and strategy.
Teaching commitments
The main teaching commitments will be in the departmental curriculum in biochemistry and molecular cell biology, and in biomedicine. The successful applicant will be responsible for or contribute to courses for biochemistry, molecular biology and biomedical students, as well as supervision of undergraduate project students. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in supervision of graduate students pursuing their master’s and PhD degree.
Successful applicants will also serve on departmental committees and contribute to departmental administrative affairs, as directed by the Chair.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
