PhD Scholarship in Consumption Studies, Department of Marketing & Management

Job description:

The Department of Marketing & Management, University of Southern Denmark in Odense announces a PhD Scholarship in the area of Consumption Studies with a special focus on anthropological perspectives on markets and management. The position will be vacant from October 1, 2012 or soon after.

The department carries out research within the following five units: Consumption Studies, Strategic Communication Management, Strategic Organizational Design, Integrative Innovation Management and International Business & Entrepreneurship. The main research focus of Consumption Studies is Consumer Culture Theory. The research unit is known internationally to host a significant number of scholars in this field and to be active in the key global dialogues of the field. The research currently focuses on studies of symbolism of consumption practices, the role of brands and branding processes in consumer culture, and the impact of globalization processes on local and global consumer cultures and practices. We, in the unit are seeking to strengthen our research profile in anthropological perspectives on consumer culture and its relation to markets and management. As part of the teaching obligation the candidate will be involved in the teaching at the newly established B.Sc. in Marketing and Management Anthropology and anthropologically based courses in our bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Marketing, Globalization and Communication.

Application, salary, etc.:

Your employment as a Salaried PhD Research Fellow is governed by the agreement of October 1, 2008 on Graduate Employees in government appendix 5 – protocol on PhD Research Fellows. The scholarship runs for three years.

When applying for a PhD scholarship, please fill in the application form available on our web page www.sdu.dk/sam/phduk under the section Application forms for enrolment. Here, you will also find guidelines for preparing your project proposal within Business Administration.

The application form should be accompanied by:
1. A detailed curriculum vitae
2. A translation of grades according to the European ECTS system obtained in BA and MSc programmes,
3. A project description (max 5 pages),
4. An abstract (max 250 words) of the project description mentioned under point 3
a. The abstract must clearly state the research area, objectives and methods of the project.
b. The abstract must contain a well-motivated suggestion for a supervisor among the faculty: here
All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.

Applications will be assessed by a committee. When the evaluation committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
